Important terms in SEO

To understand SEO, you should be aware of some basic terms related to it. It plays an important role or act as indicators in success & failures in implementing SEO.

Google PageRank (PR)
It is a system that Google has developed and uses to determine the importance of a particular webpage or website. Any page is rated in between 0-10, once it is indexed by Google. So, having higher PR is good and it is considered as one of the factor in attaining higher rankings in Google.

Back link
A link that points to a webpage or website from any other webpage or website is known as Back link. If you are receiving a back link from a website/webpage, that has good PR and relevant to your website content page, then it can help in your website/webpage PR along with organic rankings. Having back links is something like receiving votes or get recommendations to your website by other websites.

Deep Crawling
Search engine makes attempt to index internal webpage(s) of the website which are several clicks away from home page and the process is called Deep Crawling. This kind of update normally takes once in 2-3 months however this time frame may vary. Soon after deep crawl, one can expect boosting in PR. So, it always good to have your website crawled completely.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI)
This approach is used by search engines especially Google to recognize keywords in the context of the words on the entire webpage and determining which pages to be kept outside of search engine result pages. So, if you can study and understand how it works, then it will be easy for you to optimize your website for Google.

Over Optimization Penalty (OOP)
A website that is penalized because of over optimization done by placing too many keywords repeatedly all over in various section like title, meta tags, heading tags, body, ALT tags etc of a webpage(s) is termed as Over Optimization Penalty. So, keep a check on keyword density & prominence of your webpage/website. Also, too much aggressive site promotion to search engines, directories, blogs etc can be considered as OOP.
